Moving

I used to do a lot of moving. As a kid we lived in three different house on the same street in three years. As a young adult, I did the age typical move once a year until I finished law school. Less than a year ago, Mo and I moved between cities in Michigan.

Some moves are easier than others, moving into the apartment across the hall because it has a better view. All you need is a few friends to help you move all of your stuff. Other moves are a bit more complicated and require lots of planning.

A recent move

As you read this, you may not have realized it (especially if things are working the way they are supposed to be), but I moved my site. What had been amusingames.org for the last almost eleven years (what?!), is now amusingames.com.

Why the move? Honestly, I’d been wanting to migrate my blog to a .com domain for a while, given that I am not a nonprofit organization, just a dabbler in the blogosphere. I believed .org sounded more legit in 2008, but I have since changed my thinking. The problem was, though, someone was cybersquatting on the .com domain of my blog name. At various points, whoever had it offered to sell it for a few thousand dollars. That was a giant nope. I considered starting a new blog with a new name (or just my real name), but considering how sporadically I write, I didn’t think that was the best approach.

So I just continued (ish) on here until last week. After publishing my last post, I got an email from my web host. He’s a wonderful friend who helped me set up the blog in the first place and has been hosting it on his own server ever since. He told me that he decided to end his hosting services and asked if I would be able to find a new host.

I happily agreed, and started looking for a new host. In the process I thought, maybe I should check on the .com domain one more time. Guess what? The cybersquatters had let it go and I snagged it for free (for the first year) as part of my signing up with the new web host. I know that this promotion is not unique to me. But getting the domain for free after thinking I’d have to shell out over $2000 if I ever wanted it has me incredibly excited and eager to write more.

Move with me

So in sum: I’ve moved. If you still happen to follow this blog, make sure you begin following me at amusingames.com. The old site has been redirected, so you should be pointed in the right direction anyways. But it’s better to be safe than sorry!
